Terms of Service
Last updated: May 13, 2026
These terms govern your use of Subbun — the Subbun Chrome extension and this website (collectively, "the Service"). By installing or using the Service, you agree to these terms.
The Service
Subbun is a Chrome extension that translates Japanese video subtitles into English using Chrome's built-in on-device AI APIs. The free tier covers YouTube; the Pro tier unlocks the additional supported sites and features described on the pricing page.
Subscription, payment, and refunds
- Payment is handled by Lemon Squeezy, our merchant of record. Lemon Squeezy collects sales tax and VAT where applicable, issues invoices, and processes refunds.
- Monthly and annual subscriptions auto-renew at the price disclosed at purchase, until you cancel. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; we don't pro-rate partial periods.
- Lifetime purchases are non-recurring. You receive all Pro features for as long as the Service exists.
- We offer a no-questions 60-day refund on Pro purchases, processed by Lemon Squeezy. Request via support@getsubbun.com with your order number.
License
We grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for personal, non-commercial use on devices you own or control. Each Pro license key may be activated on up to three devices at a time; you can deactivate a device from the popup and reuse the slot.
What you may not do
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source of the extension beyond what is exposed in the Chrome Web Store package itself.
- Share your license key publicly or with people who haven't paid for it.
- Use the Service to violate the terms of any third-party platform you watch video on (YouTube, Netflix, etc.). You are responsible for your own compliance with those platforms' terms.
- Resell, sublicense, or rebrand Subbun without our written permission.
Third-party platforms
Subbun is an independent product. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by YouTube, Netflix, Amazon, Abema, Niconico, Crunchyroll, TVer, NHK, U-NEXT, Disney+, Hulu, or any other streaming service. We translate subtitles those services already provide. Site compatibility may break temporarily when these services update their players; we ship patches as quickly as we can.
Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind. Translation quality is not guaranteed to be accurate for any specific purpose. Do not use Subbun for medical, legal, financial, or other critical decisions without independent verification.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Subbun and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits or revenues. Our total aggregate liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
Termination
You may stop using the Service and uninstall the extension at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access (with refund of any prepaid unused portion, where applicable) if you materially breach these terms.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the product and applicable law evolve. Material changes will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the Service operator is based, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute will be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction.
